Selah
Last week I took a selah. Selah is a mysterious word that most wordsmiths define as a pause—more specifically a kind of sacred pause. A pause for you to listen to your heart and ponder the moment.
Last week I paused from sending out One Minute in Utopia. First time in about 10 years.
We were bedside with my mother-n-law, Lois Marie, following a stroke. We left Montana and returned to Texas to be with her during her final days. The Lord chose to take her home on July 4th. Such an amazing woman of God. She was so very special. Can’t think of a more poignant day for her to receive her independence from this life.
As the day ended we were catching our breath, watching the Washington, DC Guiness record fireworks display on TV. It was estimated that 875,000 fireworks were set off.
While watching this celebration of our Nation’s 250th anniversary, I heard in my Spirit a voice that said, "This doesn’t compare to the celebration that is going on in heaven for Lois Marie’s homecoming."
It’s the same voice I heard while being at the raucous, loud, confetti cascading down World Championship celebration in San Antonio after winning our second championship in 2003. It was the culmination of my time with the Spurs serving as Sport Psychologist. I was standing in front of the stage as David Robinson held his son in one arm on that Father’s Day after the final game of his career, the Championship trophy in the other. Tim Duncan stood next to David, his arm around David’s shoulder while holding the MVP trophy in the other. “We are the Champions” was blaring repeatedly as the crowd was in an absolute frenzy. In a moment I’ll never forget, that same voice spoke in my mind and said, “This doesn’t compare to the celebration in heaven that happed ten days ago when Kent received Jesus as Lord with you in the mountain meadow in Colorado.”
Sometimes we need to pause and realize that Heaven is real. I needed the selah last week…
Thank you Lois Marie for your unwavering faithful love and witness to your family and the world. Welcome to your eternal home in Heaven. We love you! Enjoy the celebration of love cascading upon you in Heaven. We will see you again on the other side…
