Out Of The Wilderness

We are at the Wilderness Club in Eureka, Montana at our new cabin. A life long dream of owning a summer cabin in the mountains. Karen and I started our dream when we spent time early in our marriage traveling to Red River, New Mexico with her family. We did that for years. The mountains and streams invade your heart quickly. It’s our 45th year of marriage, and the first time having a mountain cabin to call our own.

Sometimes dreams take time to mature. And of all places, why a place called the Wilderness Club in Montana? The obvious answer would be to say, “we escaped to the wilderness.” However God gave me some revelation about the name this week.

I was sitting on the back porch looking at the forrest and mountain peaks thanking Him for this place. That’s when He told me, “I took you out of the Wilderness, and brought you here.”

I realized at that moment that the true wilderness, where we get lost and wander sometimes for years, is in the city. In a spiritual sense it’s harder to find true north in the city because of light pollution—the stars are obscured. The distractions are intense and it can be easy to miss the voice of God without disciplined intentionality.

I thought I was doing ok, but this time of re-charging has been revealing. I’m taking time to calm the systems that were often running on fumes.

Now I realize that in a Spiritual sense, The Wilderness Club, is made up of people that have escaped the wilderness of the city, found their bearings in this peaceful setting, and have a decision to make. Am I here to re-charge and return to the Wilderness of the City with a new mission and intentionality, or am I called to stay here and welcome the tired, weary, burdened, and discouraged to find their way back to true north by having a time out of time experience here with us.

So far the answer is both for us. We love our Texas family and we love discovering new lifelong relationships here as well. This Sunday evening will be our first gathering and fellowship at our cabin called “The Story.” It will be a sweet time each week for Jesus adventurers to gather and share God’s past and continuing story written across the pages of their lives.

May your story continue to unfold revealing glimpses of heaven. I believe our stories are better than fiction and often confound logic and normal. It’s God’s way. Til next time…
