Random Pairing in Whitefish, Montana
We are in our second week of our Montana Spirit led adventure. Just watching and listening and noticing. A few days ago, being a single at this very busy public golf course in Whitefish, Montana, I was paired by the pro shop with a couple in their mid seventies and another lady of equal age. Karen was with me riding around in the cart and we were happy to play with anyone at this gorgeous venue.
I’ve never seen this happen on the course before. After two holes, the other gentleman picked up his ball and quit playing. But he stayed with the group and walked with his wife as she played the entire 18 holes. His first two holes were a disaster for him and he was embarrassed and at the end of his rope. His wife later told me she prayed on the second hole for God to help her husband.
As we were walking along a few holes later he said that he had a recent lesson and his brain was confused and almost paralyzed as he tried to swing. Not knowing anything about me he said it was mental and he was stuck. You could tell he was a decent player. I asked where he was from and told him I had a sport psychologist friend there that he should see. He said that he would do it.
And then the Lord told me to let him know who I was. We talked and enjoyed each other’s company for the remainder of the round. After the round we sat around with he and his wife telling stories, talking about God and sport psychology. I gave him the “greatness” book to read along with my number. They also said they would watch the movie and apply both.
Just another random pairing in life with a guy that needed a friend with my background at that very moment, and a wife who was praying for help. Only God. That’s why we take these trips. They brightened our life as well. It’s fun to share these stories each week with you all. Be on the outlook for a random pairing in your life this week orchestrated by the “Leader of the Band.”
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
