Unaffected in Utopia
Well there is no blue wave or red wave here. No anger or revenge or depression or fear about what’s come of this world. I’m in Utopia this weekend where Karen and I are with our tribe. Beautiful salt of the earth people we love and cherish.
In the cafe at lunch we saw real cowboys and cowgirls, servers eking out a living with such joy, bikers dressed in leather taking a spin through the country side on their Harleys, wealthy land owners and normal folks enjoying the daily special with no one clamoring over them.
The biggest news here is that the springs have been re-charged and the Sabinal River is flowing again. The grass is green and the decade old draught has lifted.
I ended the day at the Links of Utopia Golf Course with eight men gathered for a daily nine hole skins game at our little nine holer where we shot the movie Seven Days in Utopia. They are from all walks of life. So down to earth and unpretentious and kind. Not one word about politics or Texas turning blue. No, under a crisp blue sky on a perfect autumn day all I saw was love and community. Not politics. People looking out for each other and looking forward to the Fall Fair this weekend where the locals will be showing off their arts and crafts and canned jellies and baked goods while the rest of the world is going crazy
I choose to be here. I admire what they have. I have a feeling you do as well. God bless from Utopia, it’s going to be ok.
