A Sealed Chapter
Back when I was a professor at KU, the Lord gave me a word that changed my life. He said that Sport Psychology would no longer be my profession, but that, from now on, it would be my platform. When I contemplated deeply what He said, it was like something was being unlocked within my soul. I realized that I would sow seeds through the profession to which I was called. In fact, he has made it clear to me that this is your calling as well. To be fishers of men wherever He has gifted you.
About 25 years after that, I was challenged by Him through another word. He gave me the idea and inspiration to write a book called “greatness.” He shared this definition with me. “greatness” is to be defined in this book as selfless exceptionalism. Thus the small “g.” Jesus told us that the greatest of all is the servant. He also told me that the entire book, a book filled with the amazing stories he allowed me to experience, was to be written for one purpose really. The purpose was to use 20 chapters of stories and principles to create curiosity and inspiration for the reader to break the seal to the final chapter. A chapter about the narrow road to fearlessness… God’s ultimate message to the reader. And so I did.
While I was concerned about the potential fallout from many readers due to this strategy, He knew. He had called me to a platform and not a vocation. His strategy worked and to date, we have had over 30,000 readers break the seal.
And yes, we have had one negative comment on facebook from someone who actually read the book. And you won’t believe this, it came from a person who worked for a famous NFL coach who had spent his life sharing his testimony, which included inspirational football stories followed by the story of how Jesus had transformed his life. My wife and I attended one of his events in college and I remember saying to myself, I want to do that. Well, this book did that. So, I never do this, but I knew I had a message for this naysayer. So I reached out to him through messenger. In his message to me, he made it clear that he was very close to this particular coach and that he was incensed that I included this sealed chapter. He wanted his money back. In my message back to him, I told him that outside of God’s leading, his boss was the very person that inspired me to do this. He was in shock and had no comeback. He then apologized and told me that he would keep the book and donate it to his boss’s charity foundation. It became apparent that he wasn’t a believer even though he bragged about being best friends with his boss and sent me pictures to prove it. But I also know the entire experience wasn’t a coincidence but a seed that God sowed from the platform. And I know this guy was the lost sheep that God left the other 99 to find. You just can’t make this stuff up.
