Never Irrelevant
I spoke four times last week to various groups in Texas and California. Two of the groups were at high-end country clubs in the Palm Springs area. Those groups were composed of influencers who had produced great wealth with the gifts and talents that God had given them—men ranging from 50 to 80. I sensed a longing in their eyes for continued relevancy. "White Christmas," the classic movie, spoke to this when Bing sang the song about “what does a general do when a general is a general no more.”
I shared a story with them about discovering an antique seed bin and plow one day on our ranch in Utopia. I learned that it had been pulled out of our oat field about 70 years ago, unhooked, and left to rust, never to do again what it was made to do. When I looked into the seed bin, it was about a third full of seed that was stuck, never to produce fruit. I asked a farmer how many seeds could come from one oat plant, and he said about 10. I realized that one single seed would produce 10 billion oat plants in 10 years. All we have to do to stay relevant is to identify the dream seed that God calls us to at any age, plant it, and know that in His Kingdom economy we are never irrelevant.
Some of you, I suspect, have undiscovered seed in your heart. Ask God to show it to you and go on a seed-planting adventure with Him. I’m sitting under an oak tree in my backyard on a beautiful spring day in the Hill Country of Texas. New life is bursting out in every direction. My message from God to you this day is, “It’s not too late; you are relevant in the Kingdom. It’s springtime; time to discover unplanted seed and to plant.”
