DON'T TAKE THE BAIT
I’m struck at how media uses divisiveness at every turn to create competitive tension. The Ryder Cup talking heads are using everything they can to try and make a gentleman’s game into a hockey fight.
Don’t take the bait.
Life is too short to make everything into a contentious competition. Look what has happened to our culture.
I wrote greatness because of this toxic attitude that is being constantly spewed. Selfless exceptionalism is the Biblical basis for everything we do.
Selfless— Jesus said in Matthew “The greatest among you will be the one who always serves others.” - Matthew 23:11 TPT
Exceptionalism—Paul tells us in Colossians “Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others.” - Colossians 3:23 TPT
I love how golf brings people together and is a sport that builds character, honor, sportsmanship, and integrity. Why would we want to undermine that and make it like every other sport?
Don’t take the bait.
Be watching this weekend for who among the Ryder Cup golfers and leaders competes hard while maintaining honor and character in the midst of the chaos created by the media. Who will live their life above it all. Who will role model true greatness.
We are at a Turning Point moment in our world. I learned long ago, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to never root against my competitors. That has served me well. It removes the tension and ill will from the heart and allows us to be free with the talent God has given us as we honor and thank him. That is part of the formula for performing our best when it means the most.
I’m praying for a divine moment this weekend that will be a marker for all times as we see one or more players rise above the fray in a beautiful and poignant moment. I’m praying for the same for each of you as you walk through life to an audience of One. Bless you all on this sacred journey called life.
