Stan Utley
In August 2007, Golf Professional Stan Utley was named "Top 10" in Golf Digest's America's Fifty Greatest Teachers. He achieved one PGA Tour Victory in the 1989 Chattanooga Classic. Holding the PGA Tour record for fewest putts (6) on 9 holes, Stan teaches the Art of the Short Game using a fresh and unique approach.
Stan writes, "It is my desire to move beyond the jargon and mechanics of the short game and tap into the creativity, imagination and feel that all good short game players possess."
Stan's techniques are simply old fashioned fundamentals that have stood the test of time for the best players in golf. Stan will help you understand as well as apply these principles to both your putting and short game shots. He will also help you move to the next level by not only learning different shots around the green but also the best strategy for picking the optimal play for each situation.
Born in 1962 in Thayer, Missouri, Stan Utley grew up learning the solid fundamentals of golf. While attending the University of Missouri, he was a three-time All Big Eight selection and two-time All American. In 1989, he joined the PGA Tour by winning the PGA Tour's Chattanooga Classic. He also has three victories on the Nationwide Tour (1993 Cleveland Open, 1995 Louisiana Open, and 1995 Miami Valley Open).
Some of his greatest successes have come in his second career as a golf instructor, teaching many of his fellow PGA Tour players. His teaching philosophy and game improvement methods are consistently featured in Golf Digest, where he was named #9 on their list of America's Greatest Teachers. Stan also appears on the Golf Channel and has published two instructional books titled "The Art of Putting" and "The Art of the Short Game". Stan currently resides in Scottsdale, AZ, where he teaches at the Kostis-McCord Learning Center at Grayhawk Golf Club. Married with two children, Stan's outside interests are church, basketball, hunting and fishing.
