Face On Putting

Putting has been the topic of most distress in the players with whom I have worked. Putting confounds, frustrates, and infuriates. By far, the club that holds more players back from their scoring potential is the putter. That frustrated potential has led my search for the truth about putting.

What I have found may surprise you. I have a great appreciation for the rich traditions of the game of golf. Golf is a sport built on tradition. However, I also have a passion for truth. Truth should always trump tradition, especially when it involves performance. The fact is, tradition has held us back from discovering the truth about putting. Tradition has had an insidious hold on too many players. The stage has been set for truth to emerge and with it, freedom for the many who have been held prisoner by tradition.

Golf's Sacred Journey

In Dr. Cook's new book, Golf's Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia, a fictitious golf professional stumbles upon a small town mentor with uncommon insight. After badly blowing his performance at a mini tour event, the main character meets Johnny, a coach with an unorthodox teaching style. For the next seven days, Johnny teaches this pro how to control the mental side of the game so that he could always play at his best. He learns totally unexpected lessons about golf and about life on the driving range, on the green, while fly fishing, in an airplane, and, finally, at a cemetery.

For many readers, this book has brought about a paradigm shift. Readers report seeing their golf game and their lives through new eyes. In fact, most of the books sold now are coming from former readers who purchase the book in bulk so they can give copies to all their friends.

Utopia, by the way, is a real place, although the characters in the story are fictitious. The book is based on Dr. Cooks 25+ years of experience as a golfer, a sports psychologist and a peak performance consultant.
